Ohara Isumi-City Student Exchange: 2017 is a hosting year

Students representing Ohara Isumi-City, Japan will visit Duluth summer, 2017.

2017 is a hosting year.  In 2018, those Duluth students aged 13-15 whose family hosts, are eligible to travel to Ohara Isumi-City for a week to experience life in our sister city with host families there.  Strong bonds of friendships are made, perspectives broadened, and lives are changed forever.

If your family is interested in hosting this year, or if you have questions about the program, please email dsci@duluthmnsistercities.org or call Duluth Sister Cities International at (218) 727-8375. We’d love to hear from you!

About Ohara Isumi-City, Japan

Located 50 miles southeast of Tokyo, and situated on the Pacific Ocean, this 50,000-person agricultural and fishing town has been a Sister City since 1990. That tie began in 1954 when an ancient Buddhist temple bell, which found its way to Duluth after World War II, was returned to Ohara. In 1993 Ohara presented Duluth with a replica of the bell, which now resides in the Japanese Peace Bell Garden near Enger Tower. Duluth also shares an annual student exchange with Ohara.
